2026 - 2029 Elections

The 2026-2029 Resident Council Election Cycle is underway. If a ballot has not been mailed to you and you are requesting a provisional ballot, please contact us at ResidentCouncils@cmhanet.com OR mail your request to Attn: Tia Battle 240 N. Interest Meetings:

CMHA staff meets with residents to educate them on the Resident Council Election Process, such as eligibility requirements, officer duties, the voting method, and how to complete the Candidacy Petition Form.

Eligibility:

  • Must reside at the housing community of the resident council site that elections are being held.
  • Must be a head of household or a resident 18 years or older, whose name appears on the lease.
  • - If in an ongoing grievance or court process, the resident is still considered “in compliance.”
    - If the resident has entered into a negotiated payment plan and is meeting the payment schedule, the resident is still considered “in compliance.”

  • Must reside in a unit where the rental responsibility is below market rent.
  • Must be a resident of the housing community for six months or more.


Election Process:

  • Vote by mail in January 2026.
  • Virtual Election Day Count to be held on January 30, 2026.

Candidates’ Forum:

CMHA staff provides residents with the opportunity to hear the views of candidates in their community and to ask questions, in an open and community-building environment. The Candidates’ Forum will take place on:

The Independent Third-Party Monitor (ITPM):

Under 24 CFR 964.130 of the Tenant Participation and Tenant Opportunities in Public Housing program, CMHA has contracted Resident Participation Services, PLLC (“RPS”) to serve as the ITPM. RPS will receive and hold the ballots until January 30, 2026, where the secret ballot will be counted to determine the majority vote. The ITPM will adhere to the election’s Provisional Ballot, Candidates’ Campaign Grievance, Challenged Ballot, and Objection Period Procedures to ensure a fair 2026 - 2029 Resident Council election cycle.
